The Adventure Bicycling Association has put together a 2,000-mile trail that roughly traces the path slaves once took on their journey to freedom some two centuries ago.
Since 2007, more than 4,500 maps of
the route have been sold. Bicyclists are able to experience the journey in a more real way, but also are able to make stops along the way.
Ohio plays an important role, on the trail, as it was an important demarcation line between free and slave states. In Cincinnati today there exists the
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center that pays tribute to this journey that often went right through Cincinnati.
