This western Hamilton County village was founded in 1818 by John Cleves Symmes, a pioneer of the Northwest Territory and the father-in-law of President William Henry Harrison. Located in the heart of the Three Rivers valley, Cleves is near the Whitewater River, the Great Miami River and the Ohio River. The Harrison Symmes Memorial Foundation Museum preserves the history of Harrison, his family, and the Northwest Territory and is located in an 1866 building constructed by Civil War veterans as a place to gather.
