Representative Courtney Combs, a Republican from Hamilton, plans to re-introduce a measure that could make teen tanning rules in Ohio some of the toughest in the nation.
Combs believes that the stricter regulations will decrease the time teens spend in tanning beds and in turn reduce the number of future cancer cases. "This is not about looking good. This is a health issue. It could end up costing these teens thousands of dollars in health care, and maybe even their lives," says Combs.
Critics believe the proposal goes to far and is another example of Big Brother sweeping in to control their lives.
Should state lawmakers approve the proposal it would require that anyone under 18 get a doctor's note before getting into a tanning bed. The current rules in Ohio require teens to get their parents' permission first.
