The 2019 James Beard Award semifinalists have been announced, and one local chef and restaurateur made the cut. Jose Salazar, owner of Salazar Restaurant & Bar and Mita’s, is on the short list of Best Chefs in the Great Lakes Region (which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio).
According to the organization, chefs are selected “who set high culinary standards and also demonstrate integrity and admirable leadership skills in their respective regions.”
Finalists will be announced on March 27, and they will attend the James Beard Awards Gala held at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on May 6. To read the full list of nominees, click here.
