UC to open canine audiology clinic

This month, the University of Cincinnati opens a full-service canine audiology clinic, giving students a chance to conduct baseline animal research.

Located within the French East Building, home to the College of Allied Health Sciences, the Bioacoustics and Canine Audiology Clinic is the brainchild of UC assistant professor Pete Scheifele, PhD.

The University of Cincinnati reports that, since audiology is not taught in veterinary school, a commonly-used method for testing for canine deafness has been making loud noises or dropping heavy objects.

Scheifele says that this method isn't foolproof - a dog may react to vibration without ever hearing a sound.

He adds that all research conducted at the clinic will be non-invasive.
