More cities offer Wi-Fi on buses

SORTA's Metro bus system is among the more than 20 bus systems throughout the country now offering free Wi-Fi on selected routes.

The three-month pilot program started on Metro's Kings Island Express route (71X) in March.

According to USA Today, the Utah Transit Authority, which began offering the service on 60 of its buses in January, has seen the number of unique users rise from 500 to 2,500 over its first three months.

William Miller, president of the American Public Transportation Association, predicts that Wi-Fi will become a service that riders expect.

Outfitting a bus with wireless Internet costs between $1,000 and $2,000.
