Four Cincinnati buildings achieve Energy Star status

Four downtown Cincinnati buildings are among 176 in the region awarded Energy Star status by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The 580 Building, Chemed Center, P&G General Office and the PNC Center join the nearly 4,100 that were on the list as of the end of 2007.

According to the release, Energy Star-rated buildings have saved nearly $1.5 billion annually in lower energy bills and have saved in carbon dioxide emissions the equivalent of the annual output of 1.5 million American homes.

EPA Region 5 Administrator Mary A. Gade estimates that these buildings use one-third less energy than the typical commercial or industrial building.
