Vine Street, Riverside Drive improvements dedicated

The City of Cincinnati has dedicated two new road improvement projects designed to improve mobility for both automobiles and pedestrians.

The $4 Vine Street Improvement Project included the realignment of the Vine/Erkenbrecher intersection, wider sidewalks, a new road surface with wider bicycle lanes, new traffic and pedestrian signals, new streetscaping, a new water main, and a new retaining wall.

Started in January 2008, the new Vine Street highlights the new Cincinnati Zoo Pedestrian Bridge, which Cincinnati Zoo executive director Thane Maynard says is an example of how infrastructure investment can support redevelopment.

"We are always happy to collaborate with the City of Cincinnati," he says.  "This street improvement project is a welcome addition to our continuing redevelopment efforts."

Just east of the Central Business District, the Riverside Drive Improvement Project was also unveiled and opened to the public.

As an important truck and alternate route between downtown and numerous east side communities, the project included the softening of the "S" curve, new curbs and sidewalks, landscaping, a new water main, and a new crosswalk and traffic light at Adams Crossing.

That $7 million project broke ground during the summer of 2007.

Prus Construction was the contractor for both projects.
