Realtors work together to reveal Covington

On Saturday, Discover Covington held a city-wide open house for those interested in exploring urban living.

The tour of 19 for-sale properties was staged by ONE Covington, a group of business owners who are passionate about seeing the city succeed, who modeled it after similar events in and around Downtown Cincinnati.

Discover Covington committee member and Comey & Shepherd real estate agent Dave Amarante says that it's a great example of realtors working together.

"We opened it up to anyone who had a listing," he says.

The result was the inclusion of listings from seven agencies that spanned everything from single-families to condos, from Ohio Riverside to Wallace Woods.

Though they kept no official count, Amarante says that the turnout was steady throughout the day.

"We've had old, we've had young," he says.  "We've had people from West Chester to Over-the-Rhine to other parts of Northern Kentucky."

Visitors who took the tour were also given a resident handbook with histories of the various neighborhoods the city has to offer.

Amarante says he hopes that people walked away from the event with the realization that there's something in Covington for everyone.

"Covington has a lot of diverse, different areas," he says.  "We want to encourage them to see them, and, hopefully, move over here and take advantage of what Covington has to offer."

The surplus fundraising proceeds are being donated to the Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington.
