Garden District wants pocket park, seeking funding

The Covedale Garden District would like a new pocket park for the neighborhood, and they are seeking private funding to do so.

Covedale Gardens, which has been proposed for the corner of Covedale and Ralph avenues, would include:

  • An open lawn
  • A walking loop
  • Gathering spaces and seating
  • An arbor structure
  • Entry columns
  • Architectural artifacts, decorative pavers and interpretive panels
  • Perennial and ornamental grass planting beds
  • Street trees, evergreens and flowering trees

The concept plan was designed by Human Nature Inc.

The land was once occupied by four homes, but was purchased by the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD) for the installation of a water retention basin.

MSD has since provided $10,000 for plantings in the park, which neighborhood volunteers are currently installing.

Jim Grawe, who helped found the Covedale Neighborhood Association, says that the local impact is very encouraging.

"Local residents sense that the community is moving forward in a positive direction and young professionals, now aware of the area's attractiveness, are buying homes in this area that is being branded as the Covedale Garden District," he says.

Donations can be made by contacting Ryan Grawe of Friends of Covedale Gardens LLC at (513) 921-2258 or by e-mail at [email protected].
