During a vigil held on Sunday, August 4th, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine was greeted with chants of “Do something,” and two days later, he did.
Among his proposed changes include a variation on the “red flag law,” which would require a judicial hearing within three days of a person’s firearms being confiscated to determine mental fitness, strengthening background checks and “soft targets” — areas susceptible to shootings — as well as freeing up space in psychiatric care facilities across the state.
Mayor Nan Whaley says the governor’s proposals are a “step in the right direction.”
