GE Aviation and Procter & Gamble among Cincy companies on Fortune's Top 10 Admired list

Fortune magazine not only creates the Fortune 500, but another list that is becoming closely watched -- its list of "Most Admired" companies. Several companies based in Greater Cincinnati or with major operations here cracked the Top 10. They include GE, whose GE Aviation division is based here; Toyota, which bases its North American manufacturing operations in the region; FedEx, which maintains a major ground hub here; Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble, and Johnson & Johnson, whose Ethicon Endo-Surgery unit is headquartered here. To create the top 20, Fortune and its survey partners at Hay Group asked the experts -- in this case, more than 3,700 people from dozens of industries -- to select the 10 companies they admire most. This year's winners have strong records of innovation, leadership, and financial strength, Fortune says.

Also, two area companies made the Top 10 list of best innovaters: P&G, which the magazine says has banished "the "not invented here" syndrome," and Fortune Brands, which has a major Jim Beam production site here.  That company, Fortune says, "punches above its weight, with No. 1 or No. 2 positions in most of its brands, which include Jim Beam."
