LISC training shows how to reverse housing blight

A two-day training session will teach community developers, municipal staff, and funders the science and art of transforming a blighted neighborhood into a thriving residential market with an improved quality of life.

"Revitalization Planning and Implementation", part of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky's Capacity Building Academy training series, will be held November 20 and 21 at the Mayerson Academy in Corryville.

Led by Jeremey Newberg and Wendy K. Smith of Capital Access, Inc., the session will offer a foundation on the mechanics of revitalization and will provide a road map for developing the community, political, and financial support needed to make it happen.

"Wendy and Jeremey have presented several trainings here in the past few years, always well attended and helpful," says Patricia Garry, executive director of the Community Development Corporations Association of Greater Cincinnati (CDCAGC).  "They teach the nitty gritty, the numbers and spreadsheets that make deals work."

Breakout group sessions will allow attendees to practice what they've learned in a real world case study.

Community developers, for-profit and non-profit developers, politicians and other local officials, and corporate and philanthropic leaders are encouraged to attend.

Admission is $35 per day, and registrations can be made through the CDCAGC.

The deadline for registration is November 16.
