Cincinnati Zoo challenges us to collect and recycle old cell phones

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is promoting the national Go Bananas! Challenge to recycle old cell phones, which contain the metallic ore coltan that's mined in endangered gorilla habitats in Africa.

In an effort to reduce the need for coltan, the zoo is collaborating with Gorilla Glue Company and Eco-Cell for the fourth year in a row to ask organizations, schools and community youth groups to create to collect and recycle cell phones to help save gorillas. This week's issue of Soapbox has more information here.

Here is a Cincinnati Zoo video with some up-close-and-personal reasons for helping protect gorilla habitats in Africa.
