Officials from Milwaukee Public Schools are traveling to Cincinnati this week to check out a district that’s drawn national attention as a model of urban school reform.

Officials from Milwaukee Public Schools are traveling to Cincinnati this week to check out a district that’s drawn national attention as a model of urban school reform.

Between 2000 and 2007, Cincinnati Public Schools has improved its graduation rate from 51 percent to 79 percent and eliminated the gap in graduation rates between African-American and white students.

According to the Journal Sentinel, the delegation is most interested in the intervention strategies that CPS has used to keep students who misbehave in school, rather than expelling them.

The Cincinnati reforms, which have drawn attention from Education Week and CNN, were made possible by a $2 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
