Appreciating hidden gems — OTR gets national recognition for its revitalization

Thanks to a mix of grit and character, evinced by provocative murals and timeworn signs, OTR has a familiar old-meets-new feel, according to a recent article in OZY about hidden gems in well-known cities.


The multimillion dollar facelift that took place over the past decade has created a “simmering experimental atmosphere” in a once-neglected neighborhood and now draws both entrepreneurs and families to the largest historic district in the country just years after it was deemed the most dangerous neighborhood in America.


According to the author, visitors should go for the beautiful Italianate architecture and stay for the beer at one of the area’s cutting-edge breweries.
