Food for thought: One man gives up eating for Lent

Del Hall says he's following the lead of monks in the 1600s who would survive on a special blend of beer called “liquid bread” that was loaded with carbohydrates and other nutrients, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Hall, who works as the director of sales at 50 West Brewing Company in Cincinnati, is nervous. He says he’s finished big challenges before, such as running a full marathon, but “this seems very daunting.”

Hall is documenting his quest on his Twitter account and his other social media accounts, saying on a YouTube video that he now has a “super-heightened” sense of smell. He said he lost seven pounds after the first three days, and 15.6 pounds after the first week.
