Cincinnati pediatrician stresses importance of early childhood literacy

Dr. John Hutton, a pediatrician with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital who also oversees the facility’s Literacy Development Center, recently spoke at Marshall University about the importance of reading to children from birth.


He noted that, in the first five years of life, the brain develops rapidly and it’s critical to take advantage of this time period so that children can start reaching literacy benchmarks as early as preschool.
