Well over a decade into his career, Roger Federer has achieved the rare sort of successes that surpass even childhood dreams.

“When I was a kid, I wasn’t thinking of winning five Cincinnatis,” Federer said after his semifinal win Saturday over his Swiss compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka. “But then again, here I am in this great situation being able to do it — the first man ever.”

Something nobody knows.” Candace Klein, the founder of Bad Girl Ventures andSoMoLend, an online lending platform, was still in high energy last night after presenting her live pitch strategies to several hundred entrepreneurs in Salt Lake. The small dinner group was the denouement of an intense evening. She’d flown in earlier in the day to give her presentation at the University of Utah for Grow America and the local Entrepreneur Circle Meetup. Response was so overwhelming, Grow America EVP Richard Swart had moved the event to a bigger facility. Twice.

LaunchRock Acquires Giftiki, Collaborative Gifting Service To Shut Down

Startup launch service LaunchRock just announced that it has acquired Giftiki, a startup that allows friends to pool their money to buy more valuable gifts.

The financial terms aren’t being disclosed, but LaunchRock co-founder and CEO Jameson Detweiler says Giftiki service will be shut down. Judging from the tongue-in-cheek press release, this sounds like a classic acqui-hire, with LaunchRock acquiring the company for its team, not its product.

Now, a new platform called Roadtrippersis offering driving directions through the US not based on the most efficient journey, but the most interesting route.

Cincinnati Zoo cheetah breaks world speed record

Sarah, the Cincinnati Zoo's 11-year-old cheetah, set a new world speed record! She first earned the title of world’s fastest of all land mammals in 2009 when she covered 100 meters in 6.13 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 6.19 seconds set by a male South African cheetah named Nyana in 2001.

Delta: No reductions at CVG

Delta's Cincinnati hub will survive the demise of the its Cincinnati-based Comair regional subsidiary, airline officials say.
 
In announcing its shutdown of Comair, Delta pledged that "no reductions in the number of Delta flights are planned at Cincinnati as a result of this decision."

Cincinnati is conducting a feasibility study on establishing a bike share program in the city.

Reds: Hottest team in baseball

It's July 30, and the Reds are tied for the best record in baseball. How does this happen? Joey Votto's been out two weeks and might miss two more. Opening Day third baseman Scott Rolen's been terrible and/or injured. The starting rotation has Johnny Cueto and a bunch of mid-to-back-rotation types. Venture for America's Chelsea Koglmeier joins the Brandery

Unlike most of her classmates, Chelsea Koglmeier, a 2012 graduate of Duke University, decided to skip the bulge banks and big corporations to pursue a job at a start-up company. Although joining a start-up after graduation is risky, Koglmeier, a Venture for America fellow, had some help.

She's moving back to the town where she grew up, Cincinnati, to work for The Brandery start-up accelerator.

According to the company’s website, Venture for America matches fellows with start-ups best suited to their skills and career goals where they will work for two years, learning the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.
