Cincinnati ranked number one on the Residential Remodeling Index top 100 markets list. Cincinnati shows a high demand of remodeling households over the next four quarters, indicating growth in the overall global and national economic trends.

Famed designer says DAAP one of few design schools not failing their students

Famed designer,Gadi Amit, questions if design schools are failing their students. As Amit reviewed candidate's portfolios to join his growing team, he noticed the lack of quality in student's work. According to Amit, fortunately the one U.S. exception is the University of Cincinnati with "an excellent program and very solid graduates."

Cincinnati vs. St. Louis: Which Riverfront Would You Choose?

Urban STL compares the riverfronts of St. Louis and Cincinnati. Although St. Louis has the presence of the famous Saarinen's Arch, Urban STL praises Cincinnati for its more active, inviting, and interesting Central Riverfront Park, it's two stadiums, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and the Moerlein Lager House.

UC students test dive mechanical dolphin tails

University of Cincinnati's School of Architecture and Interior Design created and tested prosthetic tails in the Florida Keys. The mechanical foot fins allow swimmers to move like a dolphin and swim twice as fast as an Olympic swimmer. The "Retail Design" course linked design students with entrepreneurs and it will be presented at an international design conference in August.

CAC architect Hadid named to Time's list of people who most affect our world

Time named 100 people who most affect our world in their annual Time 100. Zaha Hadid, the designer of the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art (CAC), ranked under Time's list of "Thinkers," who create work with a sense of passion and a universal touch. The Contemporary Arts Center was Hadid's first completed project in the United States.

A whirlwind weekend in Cincinnati

A former resident of Cincinnati embraces the growth and diversity of her native city. For the short weekend visit, the "old hometowner" explored the beautiful and different lively spots along the river, the abundance of art offered around the city, the taste of real Cincinnati in Northside, and the variety of local chili parlors and bakery's. University of Cincinnati ranked as one of world's most beautiful college campuses

The University of Cincinnati's efforts to remake its urban campus have been well recognized and awarded nationally.  A new ranking by Forbes lists UC's campus as one of the most beautiful in the world.

The ranking was developed by a panel of architects and campus designers.  The Forbes ranking touts UC's bold master plan for its main campus that has positioned the university well for the 21st Century.

Northern Kentucky University constructing buildings with smart technologies

NKU is practicing what it preaches in classroom by constructing buildings with intelligent building systems that generate and collect information on the structure's electrical, mechanical, security, and other systems.

The smart technologies were most recently incorporated into the design of the new $55 million College of Informatics building that was also designed to grow with future advances in technology.  The technologies will help improve energy efficiency in the building that is expected to qualify for LEED Silver certification.

UC is top ranked in ARCHITECT Magazine survey

The University of Cincinnati's world-renowned architecture program was ranked as a top-five program for "practice-based education" thanks to the University's pioneering co-op program.

The survey spoke highly of graduates of the program that boasts six quarters of professional experience by the time they graduate, and noted that when professionals around the country hear the word "co-op," they think of the University of Cincinnati.

Cincinnati residents brainstorm on casino appearance

More than 200 people attended the Broadway Commons casino charrette in Over-the-Rhine to discuss what they would like, and not like, to see with the new casino to be developed at the northeast downtown location.

Many of the top concerns revolved around potential light and noise pollution, and creating a casino that is energy efficient.  Residents also stated that they're looking for a casino development that is beautiful and adds to the existing beauty of the neighborhood and center city amenities.

Cincinnati's historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood is in the midst of a major transformation.  The neighborhood that saw serious decline over the past several decades is finally starting to rebound.  With this revitalization comes new challenges and opportunities.

In part three of his discussion, Kaid Benfield looks at the neighborhood and the impressive progress that has already been made.  Highlighting many of the successful projects in Over-the-Rhine's Gateway Quarter and future projects by the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC).

Restoration work to begin at Cincinnati's Union Terminal

A $9 million first phase will kick off a larger $120 million restoration effort at Cincinnati's historic art deco Union Terminal that opened in 1933 as a railroad station.

The first phase will be begin soon and include the remodeling of several dining and banquet rooms that will be made available to the public for rental.

Also included in the work is the cleaning and restoration of ceiling murals, wood veneer and light fixtures, and installing new windows and wiring.
