Principal turns around failing high school, one student at a time

Principal Anthony Smith, of Taft Information Technology High School, transformed the school from a failing, crime-ridden place to a successful, appreciated institution. Smith focused his attention towards his teachers to begin improvements nine years ago. As a result, the graduation rate jumped from 18 percent to 95 percent, making Taft an example of how to save troubled schools one at a time.  As a result of his students' success, Smith was named ABC New's "Person of the Week."
