Hundreds gathered to watch as dozens of teams participated in a "Polar Plunge" into an outdoor pool with sub-freezing temperatures at Newport on the Levee to raise money for the Special Olympics of Ohio and Kentucky.
The 481 people who participated helped raise a record $117,703 which broke the previous record amount raised in 2009 of $97,000. This was the plunge's 11th year, and the fifth year that the two states worked together on the event.
