LaRosa's chain raises $43,000 to help address food insecurity in winter

Local staple LaRosa’s Family Pizzeria makes it a priority to not only prepare food for its customers but to also provide funds for organizations — like the Freestore Foodbank — that take action against fighting hunger across the Tristate.

In the winter months, in particular, hunger becomes even more of an issue. Feeding America’s Hunger in America study reveals that 63 percent of local households have had to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities.

For the fifth straight year, LaRosa’s has helped make a dent in food insecurity by contributing 50 percent of Buddy Card sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas. With the help of its loyal customers, the organization raised nearly $43,000 for the Freestore this winter season.

“LaRosa’s is committed to supporting the community long-term and has a long-standing relationship with the Freestore Foodbank," says Ann Keeling, spokesperson for LaRosa's. “This is our largest (donation) so far."

Proceeds from the holiday fundraiser will provide 135,000 meals to local families in need.
