Friday Night Fever
June 11
Kids will be kids, but not all kids will be treated equal- Cincinnati has a drastically underserved LGBTQ youth population. So to show a little PRIDE and have a little fun, the GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) of Greater Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Rollergirls have co-sponsored a skating event, Big Gay Roller Party, for the area LGBTQ youths. They've rented out the entire rink at The Fun Factory from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. this Friday night. The hottest roller derby team in the U.S.A., the Cincinnati Rollergirls, will be in attendance. And, Big Gay Roller Party will feature a DJ spinning music plus all-you-can-eat pizza. The cost is only $5.00 to attend and that includes skate rental. It is a youth event, so all attendees must be 18 and under. So if you know a youth that would be interested in the Big Gay Roller Party, please pass the word along- it's going to be a really fun event!

?Art?
June 11

To quote Dr. Seuss, "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." The newest exhibit at Country Club Cincinnati, Pictures & Statues, asks a lot of questions and delivers answers in the form of art. The group exhibition is an inelegant approach to the examination of the role of objects in post-digital culture. The 23 artists who worked on this project chucked theory out the window and instead, built an individualistic point / counter-point discussion through their images and objects. A number of questions are posed such as, "Can the mere act of framing an exhibition under this rubric yield a meaningful conversation about 'things'? How meaningful are the distinctions between handmade, machined, mass produced and digital/virtual objects?; Can a digital image reveal a history?; Is 'art' a thing or just made of things?" The answers to these questions lie within the exhibit’s vast array of works ranging from framed text message pieces to mummified Barbie dolls. The opening reception for Pictures & Statues will be this Friday from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Exhibit continues through July 31.
