Fine-Looking Art
April 10

It's said that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." There's no arguing that Miller Gallery's latest exhibit, Beauty, is 'fine-looking' art. Pieces created by Don Hatfield, Colin Berry, Ellen Diamond, Pang Jen and Ron Johnson depict their representations of audacious beauty. The show opens this Friday with a reception from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and exhibit continues through April 24.

Not your mom's monologues

April 11-12

Coochie Chronicles: The Spoken Word Stage play hits Madisonville Arts Center this weekend for a limited two weekend engagement. Society's Tongue presents the follow-up to Eve Einsler's Vagina Monologues in this multi-media production that employs spoken word poetry, popular music, original songs, imagery and startling statistics to convey universal realities of womanhood. Coochie Chronicles shines the spotlight on women of color who share their unique experiences when it comes to sexuality, life, politics, stereotypes and other realities they face day to day. Writer and Director Jennie Wright-who appeared in UC's production of the Vagina Monologues-has pulled together an all-star cast of 15 local and internationally known female poets of color including HBO Def poets M'reld and Songbird. Coochie Chronicles marks the kick-off of the "I KNOW" Campaign; whose mission is to encourage women of color to know their HIV status and facilitate HIV testing. Click here for tickets and times.
