Price Hill Home and Garden Fair seeks to assist, inspire

Price Hill Will and Santa Maria Community Services are hosting the 4th annual Price Hill Home and Garden Fair this Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Price Hill Community Center, 959 Hawthorne Avenue.

The event, which was formerly known as the Home Improvement Blitz, focuses on beautifying the home and garden, making basic home repairs, and obtaining home improvement loans. Representatives from local agencies such as People Working Cooperatively, Working in Neighborhoods, Housing Opportunities Made Equal and the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati will be on hand to assist homeowners with loan and grant packages, foreclosure advice, and other homeowner assistance.

The center's dayroom will be turned into a demonstration area, where companies such as Firehouse Nursery and Home Depot will set up displays on best landscaping practices and energy efficiency.

Flowers will also be available for purchase this year with some of the proceeds from flower sales benefiting Santa Maria and Price Hill Will's Beautification community action team.

"For the individual homeowners, a little landscaping goes a long way in increasing their home's value," says Matt Strauss, housing resource director for Price Hill Will.  "It's a very important way of showing that you care about the neighborhood."

Strauss says that he hopes that one homeowner's project can have a duplicative effect.

"It definitely helps increase civic pride," he says.  "We hope that people will see what their neighbors are doing and become inspired."
