Developers Day will build NKY teamwork

On June 6, the development community will convene at Developers Day 2008 to learn about the successes and opportunities for investment in Northern Kentucky's river cities.

Hosted by Southbank Partners, Inc. and held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, the all-day event will feature keynote speaker Richard DeKaser, senior vice president and chief economist for National City Corporation, and Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo.

Throughout the morning, a series of breakout sessions and a panel discussion will cover topics such as investment opportunities of all sizes, local and state incentives, and Kentucky's new tax increment financing program.

An Ohio River cruise on the Belle of Cincinnati will wrap up the day, giving attendees a chance to see current projects from a unique vantage point.

Scheyer says it’s important for Northern Kentucky’s communities to remain proactive when seeking development, rather than waiting for it to come to them.

"If you wait, you're sort of taking a random shot," he says.  "If you engage developers, you can get more control of your own destiny."

Though the main idea of the event is to get people together and making deals, Scheyer says that Developers Day is also an excellent tool for making contacts and building relationships that could pay off in the future.

And, although he can't talk about the deal, he says that one development that is currently in the works is a direct result of last year's event.

Scheyer says that Northern Kentucky offers a very attractive package with plenty of available sites, affordable land, low taxes and rates, good services and a high quality of life.

"But probably the most important thing is that we can get the deal done," he says.  "We have a business-friendly attitude."
