Port Authority Director earns LEED accreditation

Christine Russell of Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority joins the 1,376 Ohioans who have received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) AP (Accredited Professional) accreditation. As Director of Brownfield Development, Russell met the challenging and selective process of gaining a thorough knowledge base of green building operations and policies which is determined by an intensive exam. The exam is administered by Green Building Certification Institute, a third party organization dedicated to supporting growth for education for and within green building communities.

Cincinnati is paving the road to a greener community and having governmental relations clued in on green building initiatives will help the city to garner more environmentally-friendly development projects in the future.

“As sustainability and green building practices are increasingly being incorporated into development projects to grow our local economy, having a LEED AP on our staff helps us to stay current on new developments in green building design and construction,” said Kim Satzger, President of the Port Authority.

With the City of Cincinnati providing incentives for builders and buyers to go green, including Cincinnati Fire Station No. 9 and the in-progress condominiums at 2801 in Erie in Hyde Park, building sustainable structures seems to be more than just a trend.

“I see my accreditation as a source of expertise and a resource that can be useful for Cincinnati developers,” said Russell.  “LEED APs are not typically found in local government, so I am glad I can add value to the work of our city and county.” Russell’s expertise will assist in meeting the Port Authority’s objective to stimulate growth of the regional economy.
