SoapBlog 2 - Helpful hints on how to get involved in the city as a newcomer
Posted By: Michelle Heath, 8/13/2008
As a Young Professional, I would like to share my tips on how to get involved in the city as a newcomer:
- Initially, I would encourage you to look at living downtown, West End (City West), or Over-the-Rhine to learn more about the city. This will enable you to find other YPs to connect with.
- Get involved with a non-profit organization in the community. This will provide you the opportunity to meet new people while making a difference (Give Back Cincinnati is a great organization to consider).
- Become a member of an YP organization in the community to create your own social network. There are several such as HYPE, Cincy PAC, Banker’s Club YP group, and Emerging Leaders, United Way.
BlogPost 1 - Transplant acclimating to Cincinnati
Posted By: Michelle Heath, 8/12/2008
This is a great time to live in Cincinnati. Cincinnati has embraced the need for change and we have an opportunity to play a role as a Young Professional (YP). I have had the opportunity to be a part of the change the city is going through and I am happy to call Cincinnati my home. I moved to Cincinnati almost three years ago, my first impression of the city was that it was not the ideal place for a single Young Professional. Well after a couple of months, my opinion changed. I took the initiative to get engaged in the community. I started looking for events to attend that would allow me to meet new people. Three years later, I feel like I am apart of a growing and vibrant city that is looking forward to the Banks, revitalization of Downtown, and urban living.
Cincinnati has a lot of things to do for Young Professionals and we must do a better job of getting the message out to other cities. I have invited many of friends to the area to experience our city. They were initially impressed with our arts community and the wide variety of events that we have to offer. I am proud to be apart of this community and I will continue to put my efforts and resources into making this a great place to live for Young Professionals. I would like to ask that all of our YP groups work together to help make Cincinnati the number one choice for the best place to live by a Young Professional.
